Traditional garden in Battonya

In the heritage garden, people can get to know traditional fruit, prepare jams, or just relax. In November 2019, 30 volunteers developed this place by planting trees and shrubs.

The purpose of the project is to develop the garden of an old farmhouse in the Battonya Country House operated by the Fodor Manó Local History Association (Battonya town) as a "heritage garden". It aims to introduce the old native Hungarian fruit trees and fruits, the orchard, and the outdoor furnace realized in the framework of the project to the inhabitants of Battonya. Local NGOs, schools, kindergartens can use the garden for relaxation, activities and past activities.

Through this project, the Country House preserves traditions and old customs, serving the city of Battonya as a living community space. Due to support of the Hungarian Environmental Partnership Foundation, 1800 meter squares were planted with native fruit trees and shrubs with the participation of 30 volunteers.

Trees and shrubs were planted between 10-20 November 2019: 56 native fruit trees (pears, apples, sour cherries, plums, peaches), 80 bushes, (gooseberries, raspberries, blackberries) and 20 shrubs. The jam from freshly planted fruit trees will be prepared in an outdoor oven as part of a multi-day jam-making event.
